Candy Shoppe Christmas Card Set - Deck the Halls Gingerbread House

Every good holiday needs a gingerbread house, and this one is ready for visitors. Its frosted roof is trimmed with candy buttons and curly icing swirls, candy canes frame the arched red door, and a pair of pink-paned windows glow against the snow. Two little evergreens stand guard on the hillside, and the bright pink sky with its sparkling snowflakes makes the whole scene feel like a sweet, snowy dream.

Gingerbread houses owe a lot to the Brothers Grimm, whose 1812 tale "Hansel and Gretel" put a witch's candy cottage into the imaginations of generations of children. Gingerbread itself is far older, with spiced honey cakes showing up in European kitchens for centuries. The song this card borrows its name from has a similar story: "Deck the Halls" set English lyrics to an old Welsh melody, and Thomas Oliphant published them in 1862. Both traditions were built on the simple idea of making home a little sweeter.

Inside, the verse reads "May the glow of Christmas fill your home with warmth and joy," a fitting wish for every household on your list.
