Nutcracker Deck the Halls Card

Crack open the holiday spirit with this 5 x 7 inch card. A raised nutcracker in a red coat and tall hat stands guard against a burgundy backdrop, framed by green leaves, navy holly, purple berries, and two raised poinsettias. Gold foil traces the nutcracker's details, the poinsettias, and "DECK THE HALLS" along the bottom. Inside, gold foil lettering wishes you a merry and bright holiday beneath a small poinsettia, and the full-color envelope carries the same floral pattern.

Nutcrackers began as carved wooden figures in Germany's Erzgebirge region in the 17th century, made to crack nuts for the family table. They became a Christmas favorite after E.T.A. Hoffmann's 1816 story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" inspired Tchaikovsky's ballet, which premiered in St. Petersburg in 1892. The poinsettia has its own story: native to Mexico, it was brought to the United States in 1828 by Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first U.S. minister to Mexico, and it's been brightening winter ever since.
