The poinsettia is a Christmas classic with a story. It is native to Mexico, where the Aztecs called it cuitlaxóchitl and used it for ceremonies. The flower came to the United States through Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first U.S. Minister to Mexico, who sent cuttings home in the 1820s.
