Religious Favorites Christmas Card Set - Good Tidings of Comfort and Joy

The phrase "comfort and joy" comes from the old English carol "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen," whose refrain sings of "tidings of comfort and joy." The carol has been sung for centuries, and it has a famous punctuation debate attached to it. Depending on where you place the comma in "God rest ye merry, gentlemen," the line means either "may God keep you merry" or "rest, merry gentlemen." Either way, the message is the same: good news meant to lift a weary heart at Christmas.

This landscape card frames that message with a border of holly, pine sprigs, and eucalyptus, all set against a bright white background. Clusters of red berries peek out from the greenery, which has long symbolized everlasting life in winter. Inside the border sits the greeting itself, with "good tidings of" and "and" in green script and the words "Comfort" and "Joy" in red glitter, so the key words sparkle at the center of the card.

Inside, the verse reads: "Heartfelt Christmas Greetings."
