Religious Favorites Christmas Card Set - Guiding Star
The Magi who followed the star in Matthew 2 are the reason the Star of Bethlehem became one of the most loved symbols of Christmas. In 1857, the American Episcopal priest John Henry Hopkins Jr. wrote "We Three Kings," and its chorus sings, "Star of wonder, star of night." Over the years the star has been reimagined in many ways. In the mid-1800s, Moravian teachers in Herrnhut, Germany, began making paper stars with points that glowed in the candlelight of their classrooms, and those stars spread across the world as a holiday tradition.
This card turns the night sky into a quiet, starlit scene. A great gold star blazes at the top, and its light falls in a soft blue beam that leads down to a dark manger silhouette. A gold glitter halo rests behind the manger, and small gold glitter stars scatter across the deep navy sky. The overall effect is calm and reverent, as though the light is guiding each viewer toward the manger.
Inside, the verse reads: "May we celebrate at Christmas time God's Blessings."
