Religious Favorites Christmas Card Set - Star in the East

The wise men in Matthew 2 are called magoi in the Greek text, a word for learned astronomers and priests who studied the heavens, probably from the Persian or Babylonian world. They saw a star "in the east" and followed it all the way to Bethlehem. Matthew never says how many there were or gives them names. The number three comes from the three gifts they brought, and the names Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar appear later, in medieval tradition. Over the centuries the Magi have become some of the most beloved figures of the Christmas story, and their journey is remembered each year at Epiphany on January 6.

This portrait card follows that starlight across a rich violet sky. A large gold star with sparkling glitter rises on the left, while gold sparkle dots drift across the night like scattered stars. Along the right side, the words of Matthew 2:9–10 appear in soft lavender type, with the reference set in an elegant script at the bottom. The verse tells how the star went before the travelers and how they "rejoiced with exceeding great joy" when they saw it.

Inside, the verse reads: "Merry Christmas."
