Season's Favorites - Believe (Forest Green & Gold)

A jolly, painted Santa beams from a deep forest green card, his round spectacles perched on his nose and his red hat tipped at a cheerful angle. Gold foil script spells out "Believe" above him and "in Christmas" below. Open the card to a cream marbled panel framed in green, with a small Santa vignette, a gold "Magic" script, and "Have a HOLLY JOLLY Christmas" in the center. Each card comes with a cream marbled envelope.

The card's sentiment has a famous ancestor. In 1897, eight-year-old Virginia O'Hanlon wrote to The New York Sun asking whether Santa was real, and the editor's reply, "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus," became one of the most reprinted editorials in American history. The jolly, bearded Santa in the painting owes a lot to illustrator Haddon Sundblom, whose 1930s advertising gave the world the rosy-cheeked version most of us picture today. "Holly Jolly" comes from Johnny Marks's 1964 song, made famous by Burl Ives.
